Longoria will decide in the next few days whether to have surgery, and no timetable was given for his return. He was injured in the fourth inning of the Giants’ 6-3, 16-inning victory.
¦ Phillies: RHP Vince Velasquez struck out six and threw a no-hitter for 6 2 /3 innings, OFs Rhys Hoskins and Nick Williams hit solo homers, and the Phillies downed the Rockies 9-3.
Velasquez, had his no-hitter broken up by SS Trevor Story, who hit a run-scoring double on Velasquez’s 105th pitch.
¦ Cardinals: 1B Jose Martinez will miss this weekend’s series with the Cubs because of paternity leave. He will travel to Venezuela for the birth of his daughter and rejoin the Cardinals on Monday in Philadelphia.
¦ Nationals: Mark Lerner replaced his 92-year-old father, Ted Lerner, as managing principal owner of the Nationals. Major League Baseball approved the move at its quarterly meeting in New York. Ted Lerner has controlled the Nationals since his family bought the team from MLB in 2006, the year after the franchise moved from Montreal.
¦ Tigers: OF JaCobyJones’ tworun homer capped a three-run seventh inning as the Tigers came from behind to beat the Twins 3-1. RHP Michael Fulmer improved to 5-0 in five career starts against the Twins by scattering five hits over seven innings.
¦ Braves: RHP Anibal Sanchez allowed only four hits in seven scoreless innings, OF Ender Inciarte homered and scored two runs, and the Braves beat the Padres 4-2. 2B Ozzie Albies added a run-scoring double for the National League East-leading Braves.
