An Edgewood woman whose son is charged with shooting a man inside the Harford Mall in June during a fight at a child’s birthday party has requested a jury trial for her own charges of second-degree assault, obstruction and providing a false statement to police.

Attorney Colleen Mahoney represented Lisa Gregg, 60, of Edgewood, during a hearing in Harford County District Court Monday, after felony charges relating to the matter were recently expunged. The request closes Gregg’s district court case and transfers the proceeding to circuit court. Gregg’s trial date has not yet been set.

Gregg was arrested in June hours after her son, Wesley Lyons Jr., 35, allegedly shot a man in the hand and leg during a fight at a child’s birthday party inside Harford Mall.

According to charging documents mall surveillance footage showed Gregg getting into a fight with another woman at Harford Bounce. After punches were thrown, others at the party broke up the fight. The charging documents state that Lyons, who was holding a handgun in his right hand, then raised the gun and shot Richard Williams, 42, in the hand and leg, moving closer to Williams, “as if he is trying to intentionally kill the victim.”

After the shooting, police say Gregg left the scene with Lyons and his girlfriend. Williams was airlifted to the hospital, and according to police, made a full recovery.

Lyons’ girlfriend, Lateia Green, 37, of Middle River, and Gregg were arrested hours after the shooting in an Edgewood neighborhood in the same vehicle police said was used to flee the scene. Both women were charged with accessory to first-degree attempted murder. Prosecutors later dropped the accessory charges for both Green and Gregg and filed assault and obstruction charges against Gregg.

Neither Gregg’s lawyer nor the Harford County State’s Attorney’s Office responded to requests for comment on the case, or the new charges.

Police searched for Lyons for several weeks until he was arrested June 30 in a hotel room in Anne Arundel County. He is charged with three felonies — attempted first- and second-degree murder and first-degree assault. Lyons’ jury trial is scheduled to begin Dec. 6 in Harford County Circuit Court.
