Avs lose Rantanen to injury
The Avalanche announced that forward Mikko Rantanen is week to week with a lower-body injury.
The 2019 All-Star caught an edge in the ice and awkwardly twisted his left skate during the second period of Monday night’s loss to the Blues in St. Louis. He didn’t return.
Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said Wednesday after practice that he’s optimistic Rantanen won’t be a “four-to-six week injury. We’re hoping he’s going to be back significantly sooner than that.”
The right winger from Finland is tied with Nathan MacKinnon for most points on the team this season. Both have five goals and seven assists.
Rantanen, who turns 23 next week, agreed to terms on a six-year, $55.5 million contract just before the start of the season.
He’s considered day to day.
Dubnyk left Tuesday night’s 3-0 win against the Oilers after being injured early in the second period.
Dubnyk was upended after teammate Ryan Donato fell to the ice while battling the Oilers’ Brandon Manning. Dubnyk tried to leap over both sliding players, but fell hard on his backside and appeared to hit the back of his head on the ice.
Dubnyk is 1-5-0, 4.18 goals-against average and .874 save percentage.
