The Department of Education took another step Tuesday in advancing the Trump administration’s new transgender policy for sports by asking the NCAA and the National Federation of State High School Associations to restore titles, awards and records it says have been “misappropriated by biological males competing in female categories.”
The day after President Donald Trump signed an executive order last week aimed at banning transgender athletes from women’s and girls sports, the NCAA changed its policy to restrict competition in women’s sports to athletes who were assigned female at birth.
The most obvious target for reallocation on the college level would come in women’s swimming, where transgender swimmer Lia Thomas won the national title in the 500-yard freestyle in 2022.
College basketball: Top-ranked Auburn held off host Vanderbilt 80-68. The Tigers (22-2, 10-1 SEC, who were coming off a loss at home to Florida, face No. 2 Alabama on Saturday in Tuscaloosa.
