Frederick J. Holste Jr., a retired Baltimore County police officer and a former Parkville resident, died Monday of congestive heart failure at Tel Hai Retirement Community in Honey Brook, Pa. He was 92.
Frederick John Holste Jr., the son of Frederick J. Holste Sr., a milkman, and Betty Wiedenhoeft Holste, a homemaker, was born and raised in Canton.
He attended Patterson Park High School and served in the Navy during World War II as a sonarman.
From 1958 until 1981, when he retired, Mr. Holste was a Baltimore County police officer. He was assigned to headquarters in Towson and was working at Dundalk Precinct 12 at the time of his retirement.
After retiring, the Parkville resident and his wife, the former Dolores Geraldine Waldt, whom he married in 1948, moved to Betterton on the Eastern Shore. She died in 2013.
Mr. Holste enjoyed fishing and caring for his lawn, and because he used a tractor, earned the nickname “Mr. Tractor Man,” family members said.
In 2007, he and his wife moved to the Pennsylvania retirement community. He had been an active member of Chester Lodge 115 AF & AM in Chestertown.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown.
He is survived by three sons, Frederick J. Holste III of Frederick, Larry F. Holste of Fallston and Doug F. Holste of Coatesville, Pa.; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
