Angels: DH Albert Pujols, who passed Hall of Famer Frank Robinson and took over sole possession of ninth place on the all-time home run list Saturday, went deep again on Sunday to help the Angels defeat the Mariners 4-2. 1B C.J. Cron followed Pujols' first-inning homer with one of his own and six relievers combined to shut down the Mariners after starter Matt Shoemaker was hit in the head with a line drive in the second inning. The RHP suffered a small skull fracture and small hematoma. He was to be seen by a neurologist and remain in Seattle.
A's: Red Sox LHP Eduardo Rodriguez's no-hit bid was broken up after a short replay reversal with two outs in the eighth inning, then OF Khris Davis hit a game-ending double in the ninth that sent the A's to a 1-0 victory. SS Marcus Semien had the only other hit for the A's.
Blue Jays: C Russell Martin hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the eighth inning to help the Blue Jays overcome a poor start by 17-game winner J.A. Happ and beat the Rays 5-3. Martin has nine homers and 24 RBIs over his last 18 games. LHP Happ was pulled in the third inning after throwing 85 pitches.
Cardinals: OF Randal Grichuk and 2B Kolten Wong homered, RHP Carlos Martinez carried a shutout into the seventh inning and the Cardinals snapped a three-game losing streak with a 5-2 win over the Reds. Martinez improved to 8-1 in 13 road starts as the Cardinals maintained their lead over the Mets for the final National League playoff spot.
Yankees: 3B Chase Headley and DH Austin Romine had two RBIs apiece as the Yankees beat the Orioles 5-2 to avoid a three-game sweep and remain afloat in the AL wild-card race. The Yankees began the day 41/2 games out of the final playoff spot.
Dodgers: RHP Jose De Leon struck out nine while winning his major-league debut, C Yasmani Grandal drove in three runs and the Dodgers rallied to beat the Padres 7-4 and increase their NL West lead to three games.
Extra innings: Veteran SS Alexei Ramirez, a free-agent signee who made the AL All-Star team in 2014 while with the White Sox, was released by the Padres. ... RHP Julio Teheran pitched six sharp innings, OF Matt Kemp homered and the Braves beat the Phillies 2-0 for their sixth consecutive win. ... OF Domingo Santana had his first career two-home run game, PH Jonathan Villar hit his first grand slam and 1B Chris Carter connected for his 32nd homer as the Brewers rolled to a 10-0 victory over the Pirates to complete a three-game sweep.
