Originally expected to open this fall, New Village Academy, a charter high school planned for the Westfield Annapolis Mall, recently delayed its opening day to fall 2025 after being unable to finalize a lease with the complex.
The mall, located off Bestgate Road, said in a recent news release that it had been sold to Centennial, a retail real estate investment firm, and Sandeep Mathrani, founder of Atlas Hill Real Estate.
“The acquisition of Annapolis Mall represents a continuation of Centennial’s momentum as we strategically grow our nationwide footprint with some of the most dominant retail destinations throughout the country,” Steven Levin, founder and CEO of Centennial, said in the release.
Romey Pittan, founder of New Village Academy, said organizers are still targeting a 2025 opening at the Annapolis Mall.
“Before the sale was final, Centennial reached out to us and reopened the conversation about being in the same permanent space that we had been intending before,” said Romey. “It’s not a done deal, there is a lot that could still happen, but it is looking really good.”
The school was approved unanimously by the Anne Arundel County Board of Education last year and will be the first charter school in Annapolis in 15 years. Once open, about 150 students are expected to enroll, and the school will operate with small classes. Each student will be part of a 14-member “crew” with an adviser who stays with them all four years.
Annapolis Mall also said two new tenants will move into the mall: DICK’S House of Sport and Dave & Buster’s. DICK’S House of Sport is a “new experiential retail concept” from DICK’S Sporting Goods, the release said. There will be a climbing wall, golf bays, and multisport cages to allow customers to try products before purchasing them, according to the release.
