The Dolphins placed Tua Tagovailoa on injured reserve Tuesday after the quarterback was diagnosed with his third concussion in two years.
Tagovailoa will be sidelined for at least four games with the designation.
The 26-year-old quarterback was hurt in the third quarter of Thursday night’s game against the Bills on a play in which he collided with defensive back Damar Hamlin. He ran for a first down and then initiated the contact by lowering his shoulder into Hamlin instead of sliding.
Tagovailoa this week began the process of consulting neurologists about his health. He was diagnosed with two concussions in 2022 and one while in college at Alabama.
Justin Fields will likely make his third straight start at QB for the Steelers when they host the Chargers on Sunday. Coach Mike Tomlin said that Fields is practicing with the starters this week while nine-time Pro Bowler Russell Wilson continues to rehab from a calf injury he aggravated a few days ahead of the season opener. Tomlin praised Fields for his decision-making and his demeanor but stopped short of saying Fields would be the full-time starter whenever Wilson is cleared to play. ... The Chiefs signed RB Kareem Hunt to their practice squad six years after releasing him during the 2018 season after the NFL placed Hunt him on the commissioner’s exempt list following the release of a video that showed him assaulting a woman. Hunt, 29, spent the last five seasons playing for his hometown Browns. The Chiefs were looking for help at running back after starter Isiah Pacheco broke his fibula in last week’s game against the Bengals.
