PHILLIES: Three pitchers were ejected along with Phillies manager Gabe Kapler and bench coach Rob Thomson as three batters were hit by pitches during the Phillies’ 6-2 exhibition loss to the Tigers. Tigers starter Matthew Boyd and Phillies relievers Parker Frazier and Pedro Beato also were tossed by plate umpire Tom Hallion. Boyd was ejected in the fifth inning following a ball over the head of Odubel Herrera and a pitch that was ruled to have hit him in the hand. Frazier and Kapler were tossed after the minor-leaguer hit Derek Hill with a 76 mph pitch in the eighth. Beato and Thomson were ejected after Dylan Rosa was hit in the ninth. ... RHP Jake Arrietamade his first appearance with his new team. Arrieta allowed two runs in two innings, including Miguel Cabrera’s solo homer.

METS: RHP Rafael Montero probably will miss the season after tearing a ligament in his pitching elbow. The team said the 27-year-old has a complete tear of the ulnar collateral ligament and will likely need Tommy John surgery. Montero was 5-11 with a 5.52 ERA in 18 starts and 16 relief appearances last year. He gave up 13 runs — nine earned — on 12 hits in nine innings during spring training.

EXTRA INNINGS: Mariners RHP David Phelps will miss this season after tearing the ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching arm. The 31-year-old was 2-1 with a 3.12 ERA in 10 relief appearances with the Mariners after a trade from the Marlins in July. ... The Tigers reassigned veteran C Jarrod Saltalamacchia to minor-league camp. ... A’s RHP Jharel Cotton had Tommy John surgery to repair a torn UCL in his pitching elbow. ... RHP Dylan Bundywill start the Orioles’ opener against the Twins on March 29. Bundy led the Orioles in wins last season, when he was 13-9 with a 4.24 ERA. ... Diamondbacks OF Steven Souza Jr. likely will open the season on the disabled list after straining his right pectoral muscle diving for a ball Wednesday night.
