Kneads Bakeshop is on the rise again, with plans to open its fourth location in Baltimore this fall at The Shops at Canton Crossing, even before the third location has set up shop.

In its new location in Canton at 3601 Boston St., a space formerly occupied by Atwater’s, the bakeshop will offer breakfast, lunch and a variety of pastries and artisan breads in a cafe that is about 2,000 square feet, 28 Walker Development and Kneads said in a release Thursday.

Atwater’s in Canton Crossing closed in July after nearly a decade.

“When we heard the space was available, we jumped right on it,” said Kneads co-owner Kira Paterakis, a granddaughter of the late John Paterakis Sr., owner of Baltimore’s iconic H&S Bakery and developer of Harbor East.

In Canton, the bakeshop also plans to add a liquor license, allowing it to eventually expand its brunch offerings to include cocktails and its espresso martini. Kneads also will offer catering and space for private events, according to the release.

Hours of operation are expected to be 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Kneads opened its 17,000-square-foot flagship bakery in Harbor East last year. It also expects to open an outpost in the Village of Cross Keys this winter in a smaller footprint of 1,300 square feet.

The Cross Keys location is “a custom build from the ground up, so it’s taking longer,” Paterakis said Thursday, adding that a December opening is expected barring any permitting issues.

Kneads also has run a pop-up shop in Locust Point that is “re-opening soon” according to its website. The owners said they are in talks with their landlord about making it permanent.
