“Charm City,” a documentary from Baltimore filmmaker Marilyn Ness, will have its world premiere at next month’s Tribeca Film Festival in New York.

The film chronicles citizens, police and government officials as they grapple with violence in the city and its consequences.

“ ‘Charm City’ takes viewers beyond the television headlines and over the front lines of violence in Baltimore,” according to a release from the festival. “In doing so, it reveals the grit and compassion of the city’s citizens, police, and government officials trying to reclaim their future.”

Ness is a veteran producer whose films have won two Emmys and a Peabody award. “Charm City” marks her first documentary as a director. Two of her earlier productions, “Cameraperson” and “Trapped,” were presented at the 2016 Maryland Film Festival.

“Charm City” is one of 45 documentaries scheduled for Tribeca, which runs April 18-29.
