Following the death of Major League Baseball legend Pete Rose, former President Donald Trump praised the star and again pushed for Rose to finally be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

“The GREAT Pete Rose just died. He was one of the most magnificent baseball players ever to play the game. He paid the price! Major League Baseball should have allowed him into the Hall of Fame many years ago,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social. “Do it now, before his funeral!”

Stephanie Wheatley, a spokeswoman for Clark County in Nevada, confirmed Rose’s death on Monday. He was 83 years old. TMZ Sports first reported Rose had died in his Las Vegas home.

Rose, who was known as the “Hit King” for recording the most hits in MLB history, undermined his historic achievements and Hall of Fame dreams by gambling on the game he loved. In the late 1980s, he was banned from baseball after agreeing with the commissioner to accept a permanent ban.

According to a report, there was evidence Rose bet on the Cincinnati Reds; however, he did not bet against the team.
