Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott and his wife, Hana Pugh, will be having a daughter.
Scott mentioned he and Pugh would be having a baby girl during a Wednesday news conference, where he expressed disappointment with the presidential election results. Earlier Wednesday morning, the race had been called for Republican former President Donald Trump, who won both the electoral college and popular vote over Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I’m thinking about the world that we’re going to bring our daughter into,” Scott said. He said that Harris had “did everything right, the right way” in her run against Trump, “but the unfortunate reality is that this country is distinct in racism, sexism and misogyny.”
“This morning, I woke up, and I just gave my wife a hug because I know how heavy this is weighing on Black women,” Scott said. “They have carried this country and saved this country too many times, and continue to be the most disrespected human beings on the planet. And quite frankly, it disgusts me.”
Scott and his wife had announced they were expecting their second child in a September post on social media. The couple welcomed their first child, a boy named Charm, last December and married in a surprise wedding ceremony this summer. Scott is also a father to his 9-year-old stepson, Ceron.
Scott’s announcement on Wednesday also came the day after he won reelection to a second term, becoming the first mayor to be elected twice since former Mayor Martin O’Malley was reelected to the post 20 years ago.
