The NHL lifted its ban on longtime coach Joel Quenneville and executives Stan Bowman and Al MacIsaac on Monday, clearing the way for their return to the league more than two years after they were punished in the fallout from the Blackhawks sexual assault scandal.

Bowman, MacIsaac and Quenneville can sign contracts with an NHL team after July 10.

“For more than the last two and a half years, these individuals have been ineligible to work for any NHL team as a result of their inadequate response upon being informed in 2010 of allegations that Blackhawks’ player Kyle Beach had been assaulted by the club’s video coach,” the league said, “While it is clear that, at the time, their responses were unacceptable, each of these three individuals ... has acknowledged that and used his time away from the game to engage in activities which not only demonstrate sincere remorse for what happened, but also evidence greater awareness of the responsibilities that all NHL personnel have, particularly personnel who are in positions of leadership.”

The Blues acquired C Radek Faksa from the Stars and RW Mathieu Joseph from the Senators in a pair of trades for future considerations and in a separate move signed C Pavel Buchnevich to a long-term extension. The deal with the Senators also netted the Blues a 2025 third-round draft pick. Joseph has two years left on his contract at an annual salary cap hit of $2.95 million. Buchnevich signed for $48 million over six years. Buchnevich, 29, ranks second on the Blues with 83 goals and 123 assists over the last three seasons. ... Two-time Stanley Cup champion D Victor Hedman signed a four-year, $32 million extension with the Lightning, a deal that will keep him under contract with the team through the 2028-29 season.

College football: Utah State fired coach Blake Anderson after an external review of allegations that he hadn’t complied with Title IX policies regarding the reporting of sexual misconduct cases. Nate Dreiling, who had been the Aggies’ defensive coordinator, will be interim coach. ... Oklahoma State RB and Doak Walker Award winner Ollie Gordon II was arrested Sunday morning for suspicion of driving under the influence, Cleveland County (Oklahoma) police said.

Cycling: Tadej Pogacar attacked near the top of the first big mountain pass of the Tour de France and extended his lead during the twisty, high-speed descent to take back the yellow jersey. Two-time defending champion Jonas Vingegaard did his best to limit the damage but finished 37 seconds behind in the fourth stage.

NFL: S Tashaun Gipson was suspended by the league for the first six games of the 2024 season for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy. Gipson, who turns 34 on Aug. 7, is a free agent and remains eligible to sign with a team and participate in all preseason activities, including games. His suspension wouldn’t take effect until teams reduce their rosters to 53 players.

Soccer: The Netherlands reached its first European Championship quarterfinal in 16 years with a 3-0 win over Romania as Cody Gakpo broke the deadlock in the 20th minute and Donyell Malen scored two late goals. Also, Merih Demiral has scored twice to send Turkey into the quarterfinals with a 2-1 win over Austria.
