Women lacrosse players graduate at Academy
Wearing their jerseys under their white uniforms, the four seniors on Navy’s women’s lacrosse team officially graduated from the Naval Academy on Monday and became commissioned officers.
Lacrosse players Aislinn Probst — a graduate of Broadneck High School — Morgan Young of Towson and Meghan Hubley and Molly McGuckin, both from Pennsylvania, graduated in a small ceremony Monday in Memorial Hall. Track and field athlete Joseph Loy also graduated during the ceremony.
Commandant of Midshipmen Marine Col. Steve Liszewski said a few remarks and commissioned the graduates.
The lacrosse players weren’t able to attend the Naval Academy graduation Friday because the women’s lacrosse team faced Boston College in the NCAA final four the same day. It was the first time the academy had made it that far in the tournament. The Midshipmen lost to Boston College, 16-15.
On Friday, 1,053 midshipmen graduated from the academy, where they were commissioned as Navy ensigns or Marine Corps second lieutenants.
Vice President Mike Pence spoke at the ceremony and told the mids that President Donald Trump is the “best friend the armed forces of the United States will ever have.”
Before the vice president spoke, Superintendent Vice Adm. Ted Carter gave a shout-out to the absent seniors of Navy’s women’s lacrosse team — noting their good excuse for missing Friday’s ceremony. mnewman@capgaznews.com
