Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., responded to concerns regarding his mental health and blamed former staffers for holding a grudge against him.

Several anonymous Democratic sources have come forward in recent weeks, saying the Pennsylvania Democrat’s colleagues are concerned for his wellbeing. One former aide told New York Magazine Fetterman exhibited “conspiratorial thinking, megalomania, highs and low lows, long, rambling, repetitive and self-centered monologues.”

Video journalist Nicholas Ballasy shared a video to YouTube on Wednesday in which he approached the senator and asked him to respond to the concerns.

“For me, it’s like in the ‘Goodfellas’: everyone takes a beating sometimes,” Fetterman said. “It was just a dumb hit piece and we’ve all moved on.”

Ballasy asked what the motivation was for former staffers speaking up.

“It’s a bizarre, bizarre grudge, but that’s where we are and like I, said we’ve all moved on,” Fetterman said.

He allegedly had a blowup during a recent closed-door meeting in his Washington office with union allies and former staff aides, according to the Associated Press.

Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., last week spoke out in support of Fetterman amid the scrutiny caused by the articles. He decried the reports as attacks on Sen. Fetterman’s support of Israel.

“John Fetterman and I have our differences, but he’s a decent and genuine guy,” Cotton wrote. “The radical left is smearing him with dishonest, vicious attacks because he’s pro-Israel and they only want reliable anti-Israel politicians. Disgraceful.”

Fetterman, 55, has a history of health challenges. He suffered a stroke in 2022, which he later credited for giving him “freedom” to speak his mind. The near-death experience, he said last year, taught him he no longer wants to “be afraid of if there’s any kind of blowback.”
