Red Sox: Jackie Bradley Jr. extended his hitting streak to 28 games with a second-inning double in Tuesday night's 8-3 win over the Rockies. It's the longest hitting streak in the majors this season and tied Bradley with Wade Boggs (1985) for the fifth-longest in Red Sox history. Dom DiMaggio holds the franchise record with a 34-game streak in 1949. DiMaggio's brother, Joe, hit in 56 straight games in 1941 for the major-league record. ... RHP Carson Smith will undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, effectively ending his season. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list last week.

Tigers: RHP Justin Verlander struck out 10 and gave up three hits in eight scoreless innings and Francisco Rodriguez became the sixth reliever to reach 400 saves as the Tigers beat the Phillies 3-1. Miguel Cabrera drove in two runs for the Tigers, who have won eight of nine.

Yankees: RHP Nathan Eovaldi won his fifth straight by combining on a two-hitter and the Yankees climbed back to .500 for the first time since April 15 with a 6-0 win over the Blue Jays. OF Carlos Beltran homered for the Yankees, who have won six in a row and 13 of 18.

Pirates: RHP Ryan Vogelsong remains hospitalized with swelling and multiple facial fractures, one day after he took a 92-mph fastball to the head from Rockies RHP Jordan Lyles. Pirates trainer Todd Tomczyk said Vogelsong, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list, doesn't have symptoms of a concussion but added that doctors won't be able to determine the extent of the damage around Vogelsong's left eye until the swelling subsides.

Nationals: RHP Stephen Strasburg remained unbeaten with an 11-strikeout performance, and the Nationals hit three of their season-high five home runs off struggling Matt Harvey in a 7-4 victory over the Mets. Strasburg (8-0) has five games this season with at least 10 strikeouts and 26 over his seven-year career.

Rays: RHP Jake Odorizzi allowed two hits in five shutout innings and the Rays held on to beat the Marlins 4-3. Odorizzi struck out seven and walked three, plus delivered an RBI single for his first career hit as the Rays ended a three-game slide.

Extra innings: Josh Tomlin beat Chris Sale in a one-sided matchup of unbeaten pitchers and Francisco Lindor had three hits, leading the Indians to a 6-2 win over the White Sox. Tomlin (7-0) pitched eight innings to help spoil Sale's bid to become the first pitcher in 31 years to win his first 10 starts. ... Scooter Gennett's tiebreaking single in the eighth inning lifted the Brewers to a 2-1 victory over the Braves, spoiling interim manager Brian Snitker's home debut. Ryan Braun homered for the Brewers, who struck out 12 times against Julio Teheran.
