A 19-year-old was arrested in Washington, D.C., last week on charges including first-degree murder for a fatal shooting earlier this year in Harbor East, according to Baltimore Police.
Police believe the teen, identified as Quontay Spinks, of Washington, fatally shot 36-year-old Antonio Peoples outside of The Ruxton steakhouse in the 700 block of Aliceanna Street.
Investigators identified Spinks after reviewing surveillance footage of the Sept. 14 shooting, where Peoples was seen standing outside with his girlfriend before a vehicle approached and “suspect(s) emerge from the vehicle and point firearms” at the 36-year-old, police wrote in charging documents.
“They attempt to rob Mr. Peoples, who resists” before the suspects open fire and flee the scene, police wrote. Peoples later died at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
A police spokesperson did not confirm whether investigators were still seeking other suspects, but said the case remains an active investigation.
The Saturday night shooting prompted an additional security presence in Harbor East, an area popular with residents and tourists visiting the shopping and dining district anchored by multiple upscale hotels. The shooting took place adjacent to the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront, near a strip of restaurants — including The Ruxton — owned by Atlas Restaurant Group. Baltimore Sun co-owner David Smith is a partner in some Atlas restaurants.
In addition to the homicide arrest, Spinks also was served with warrants for an October armed carjacking case and a separate attempted murder case from September.
Spinks was ordered Wednesday to remain held without bond following a hearing at Baltimore City District Court, where all three cases are being handled. He did not have a defense attorney listed in court records.
