Nationals: Anthony Rendon homered twice and drove in five runs in a 10-1 rout of the Mariners. Bryce Harper and Jayson Werth also homered. Joe Ross returned from the minors to tie a career high by throwing eight innings, allowing one run on five hits. Chris Bergman surrendered all of the Nationals’ runs and 14 of their 15 hits.
Twins: Ervin Santana pitched a two-hitter for his 10th career shutout and Brian Dozier homered in a 2-0 victory over the Orioles. Santana (7-2) struck out six, walked two and permitted only one runner past first base. Santana retired the last 14 batters in his 18th complete game. The Twins have won nine of 13.
Royals: Danny Duffy beat the Yankees for the second time in a week and rookie Jorge Bonifacio capped a three-run seventh-inning rally with a go-ahead two-run homer in a 6-2 win. Lorenzo Cain, Whit Merrifield and Mike Moustakas also homered for the Royals, who went deep four times in a span of nine batters.
Rockies: Charlie Blackmon hit a pair of two-run homers to help the NL leading-Rockies win their MLB-best 17th road game, stopping the Phillies 8-2. The Phils are 4-19 since an 11-9 start.
Indians: Edwin Encarnacion hit two of the four home runs off rookie Amir Garrett and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch for an 8-7 win over the Reds.
Angels: Cameron Maybin and Mike Trout hit back-to-back home runs to begin the game and Matt Shoemaker (4-2) won his third consecutive start in a 4-0 shutout of the Rays. Trout has homered seven times in his last 11 games. The Angels have won seven of nine.
Red Sox: Xander Bogaerts had three hits and three RBIs and Dustin Pedroia added a two-run double in an 11-6 decison over the Rangers. Rick Porcello (3-5) won for just the second time at home despite allowing five runs (four earned) on 11 hits in 62/3 innings. ... 1B Sam Travis, the 2014 second-round pick whom MLB.com tabs as the Red Sox’s No. 3 prospect, was brought up.
