


Texas is No. 1 in The Associated Press Top 25 women’s basketball poll for the first time in 21 years and the third different team to hold the top spot in the last three weeks.
The Longhorns moved atop the poll Monday after previous No. 1 Notre Dame lost in double overtime to North Carolina State. UCLA had been No. 1 the 12 prior weeks to the Irish.
It’s only the fifth time since 2001 that three different schools have been No. 1 in a three-week span.
Texas, which last held the top spot in the poll on Feb. 16, 2004, received 19 first-place votes from a 31-member media panel.
Auburn remained atop the men’s Top 25 for the seventh straight week while preseason No. 1 Kansas fell out of the poll for the first time since February 2021. That ended a streak of 80 consecutive ranked weeks for the Jayhawks. The Tigers were a unanimous No. 1. ... Utah fired coach Craig Smith, who was in his fourth season and was 65-62.
Baseball: Lawrence J. Dolan, owner of the Guardians since 2000, died Sunday night of natural causes at age 94.
NBA: Cade Cunningham had 32 points and nine rebounds, Jalen Duren 12 points and 19 boards, and the Pistons won their seventh straight game with a 106-97 win over the visiting Clippers on Monday.
NFL: Penn State DE/LB Abdul Carter will not work out at the scouting combine this week because of a shoulder injury suffered in the last game of the season. Carter, who’s considered a potential No. 1 pick, will undergo medical testing and meet with teams at the combine. ... Broncos outside LBs coach Michael Wilhoite is facing a felony assault charge after being accused of punching a police officer in the face at Denver International Airport.
