Dressing for the Friends of Fort McHenry Crab Feast meant Emma Wesoloski, 30, got to use a chiffon cocoon shrug more than once this summer.

“I was excited to wear it on a day other than the Fourth of July,” the National Aquarium’s director of marketing and programs said about the star-spangled top she sported.

The Halethorpe resident also acknowledged that the event gave her the opportunity to indulge in a particular partiality in apparel.

“Since I was young and in dance class, I’ve always embraced costumes and dressing on a theme. I attended a high school that had lots of traditions and spirit days. … My favorite spirit day was ‘Dress from Your Mother’s Closet.’ I wore a very ’80s-tastic Laura Ashley pink floral bridesmaid’s dress with the big poofy sleeves and pearls and a side ponytail,” she said.

These days, there’s another type of spirit affecting her outfits — and not just on special occasions. Wesoloski is expecting her first child in December and dealing with maternity clothes.

Since she and husband, Scot Wesoloski, just learned that they’re having a girl, that could mean a whole new theme — mother-daughter outfits — is just around the corner.
