Is Baltimore ready for Silent Bob? Kevin Smith comes to the Senator Theatre in February
Writer-director Kevin Smith, who is reviving his much-beloved stoner characters for next month’s “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot,” will host a screening of the film on Feb. 13 at The Senator Theatre.
Perennial fixtures in Smith’s cinematic View Askewniverse since their debut in 1994’s “Clerks” (during which they’re introduced loitering and selling weed outside a New Jersey convenience store), Jay and Silent Bob — played by Jason Mewes and Smith, respectively — have become pop-culture fixtures over the past quarter-century. In addition to a half-dozen or so movies (including 2001’s “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back”), they’ve appeared on TV and in comic books, had their own podcast and just generally showed up whenever least expected or, for that matter, welcome.
In “Reboot,” the two head back to Hollywood after hearing that a movie studio is attempting to revive the Bluntman and Chronic superhero franchise, featuring characters based on Jay and Silent Bob. Unhappy at the prospect of being rebooted without their participation, the duo set their minds to stopping the movie from being made.
“Reboot” opens nationally on Oct. 15. The Senator appearance is part of the “Jay and Bob Reboot Roadshow,” a series of personal appearances at which Smith and Mewes promise to show the movie and, afterward, “answer all your questions.”
